I really do love a compendium and I cannot think of a more joyful one than, 'Let's Eat France' by Francois-Regis Gaudry and Friends.
Not so much a recipe book as, travel guide, after dinner game, anthropological text book. We love it's size, it's illustrations, it's sense of fun and celebration. And far from least how silly Kai looked walking around a French market with it under his arm.
If you think you know everything about French cuisine and it's all a bit old hat anyway, then try the Ratatouille on pg 74. It's also where we discovered Maison Marc cornichons which is nothing to be sniffed at as they have improved life immeasurably.
